After finding success in Europe, the Speedback GT from David Brown Automotive is coming across the pond. It debuts this August at the Quail Motorsports Gathering.
Billed as a classic car with modern mechanicals, the Speedback GT coupe looks like it stepped from the pages of a James Bond novel. It’s entirely handmade in England with English parts.
In the past, that would have been the kiss of death. After all, the old joke used to be you never bought one Jaguar. You needed a second one for spare parts.
The Speedback is designed by Alan Mobberley, who has a strong design pedigree, including stints as chief designer at Jaguar Land Rover for 19 years and Peugeot for six years. Priced at $750,000, the coupe is hand built in Coventry, England, and uses traditional British materials and craftsmanship
Made to order, Speedback offers hand-formed panels and hand-crafted interior, as well as some special features such as a fold-down picnic seat. Because what’s more British than a motor trip and a picnic?
You’ll get to the countryside pretty damn quick. It has a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 under the hood rated at 510 horsepower and 461 lb. ft. of torque. It does 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.
