HPD parts add power, handing, breathing upgrades
After teasing its Honda Performance Development supercharger at the SEMA show in 2013, Honda has officially made the part available as a dealer-installed option for the CR-Z sport hybrid.
Enthusiasts were a little dismayed when the CR-Z originally broke cover. They expected a return to the lightweight, independent suspension hot hatch CRX. What they got was a slow, heavy hybrid. Now, the tune has changed.
The HPD supercharger helps deliver 197 hp (10 more than announced last year) from Honda’s 1.5-liter IMA engine, as well as 176 lb-ft of torque.
The setup works only with the manual transmission CR-Z. It comes with an HPD air-to-air intercooler, high-flow injectors, an ECU calibrated to CARB standards and an HPD air filter system. The price is $5,495, not including installation.
The HPD supercharger kit maintains the company’s five-year/60,000-mile warranty when installed by a Honda dealer. A limited slip differential is also available, as is an HPD sport clutch, sport dampers, coil springs, bigger brakes and bigger wheels.
