FIRST BMW GOES TO FRENCH LAUNDRY CHEF THOMAS KELLER, AMONG OTHERS
BMW's i8 supercar features 370 total horsepower and can go to 60mph in 4.2 seconds. |
This week, BMW used the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance as a backdrop to deliver its first i8 hybrid electric supercars, into the hands of a very exclusive few.
The i8, which we said was "BMW's best combination of ecology and flat-out fun," is going to a handful of CEOs, Silicon Valley titans, movers, and possibly even shakers. They include Thomas Keller, head chef of French Laundry, Tony Fadell, the man behind the Nest smart thermostat and "one of the fathers of the iPod," CEOs of movie distributors Lionsgate and hotel group SBE, and NASCAR mogul Rick Hendrick -- who has a keen history of being first.
During the week Keller is hosting a dinner with this batch of moneyed early adopters at the BMW Villa, a stone's throw from the Pebble Beach grounds.
In addition, Pebble Beach will also play host to the i8's first limited edition: the Concours d’Elegance Edition comes with unique interior and exterior trim -- Frozen Grey Metallic matte paint, Dalbergia brown leather inside, and laser-etched lettering to serve as a reminder. BMW Individual will make full use of its talents to this exclusive edition, exclusively editioned as a one-off. Jay Leno will present it on Saturday, August 16th -- no word on whether his is on order.
